Same sex relationships
The Family Law Act makes no distinction in relation to the respective genders of the two parties in a de facto relationship.
Same sex couples may wish to enter a financial agreement before, during or after a relationship, such as having a binding arrangement that applies to assets of the relationship. At the end of a relationship there may be a dispute about appropriate property settlement. There may also be parenting arrangements which require resolution, or which would benefit from being formalised in a Parenting Plan or pursuant to court orders.Apart from working out arrangements for those parents who are not of the relationship, the Family Law Act still applies the same parenting principles as it does for children with parents of different genders. Sometimes adoption or other issues might arise.
