As parents you are naturally concerned about the health and education of your children.
You may have wishes concerning the upbringing of your children in a particular religious belief, or culture.The law intends decisions about these matters to normally be the joint responsibility of both parents. Nevertheless, sometimes parents may still need to formalise a means to reach such joint decisions, particularly if communications have become strained, or there are concerns for safety between the parents.
Sometimes the courts may not require such decisions to be made jointly, but the initial presumption is that of equal shared parental responsibility, unless that presumption is rebutted according to specific rules.
A court can impose a decision when parents cannot agree, even if the inability to agree is only in relation to a very narrow issue.
