Adoption
This is where an adult assumes legal and other responsibilities for a child, creating a permanent parent-child relationship.
Recent changes to the Adoption Act have meant that the adoption process is now easier and fairer for couples, and that the rights of the child are better protected. Among other things, the changes have sped up the procedure for adopting, simplifying the process of adopting from overseas, making the eligibility criteria for prospective parents less prescriptive, and making it easier for children to be adopted by their carers.
Foster carers who want to adopt a child who has been part of their family for 2 years will now continue to receive financial assistance when they adopt.
A Stacks/Family Law specialist will be able to explain the legislation to you, and assist you with the all aspects of the adoption process.
